A Nigerian residing in Ghana, who recently relocated to his hometown of Oreropke, Delta State, Monday, went berserk, stabbing a bricklayer identified as Daniel to death, while an unspecified number of persons sustained various degrees of injuries from the attack.

According to eyewitnesses, the suspect, Benjamin Dieseru, had travelled to Ghana in August and was brought back to Nigeria by his father, Mr. Chase Dieseru, following complaints that his son was mentally challenged.

“There is tension in the town over fears of a reprisal attack from the family of the bricklayer, who are threatening vengeance,” an eyewitness told Vanguard on phone.

Speaking further, the source who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “One of those he stabbed has been referred to the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, DELSU, Oghara, owing to the gravity of his injuries, while others are receiving medical attention here at Oreropke.”

Though details of the incident were still sketchy, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Andrew Aniamaka, promised to get back with more details on the incident, but had not done so at press time.
