In a frightening development, a woman was shot dead by her abusive husband inside a police station where she had gone to report him for domestic violence.

The 28-year-old woman was shot dead by her husband inside Madeira Police Station in Mthatha, South Africa. The suspect who is employed by a security company was immediately apprehended and detained by the police officers after he had fired a hail of bullets.

Some people who were in the police station at the time ran for their lives when the shooting started.

Songezo Sanazo, who hails from Lujecweni village in Ngqeleni, said he was at the police station certifying documents when the shooting started. Narrating the frightening experience, Songezo told the publication DispatchLive,

“I was busy having my documents certified when I heard gunshots

“I heard the first one and I thought it was not something serious. But I had to run for cover and hide behind the wall when I heard a second one, third and fourth while other people were running away from the yard screaming. We were all terrified.”

Songezo went on to say that just before the shooting started, he saw a man charging into the charge office at the police station carrying a gun.

The gunman is reported to be employed by Protek Security.  He is being detained at the police station until he makes his court appearance.

The Madeira Police Station has since been closed and people are being asked to go to other police stations if they have issues which need law enforcement officials.
